Building on Frege: New Essays about Sense, Content and Concepts Albert Newen, Ulrich Nortmann, and Rainer Stuhlmann-Laeisz
The book is based on a selection of papers presented at a conference in Bonn (Germany) in the autumn of 1998, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Gottlob Frege's birth, and the lasting influence of this outstanding German philosopher-logician's work on subsequent developments in philosophy. Some of the papers are treating exegetical questions, but mainly systematic issues of contemporary interest are discussed either in a Fregean spirit or in dialogue with Frege's original views. Key papers concern the ontological status of propositions and concepts, recent attempts to improve on the semantics of singular terms, the question of how to construe the content of concept-expressions, and other themes within the common grounds in which ontology and philosophical semantics intersect. Among the contributors are leading theorists in the philosophy of language. The papers are influenced by the work of the outstanding German philosopher and logician Gottlob Frege (1848-1925).
